Barber Heitmanns 1814
The little Barber, born 1805, was able to use many beautiful silk colours for her sampler (inventory number 1906, 694) at that time. Did her father bring them from the Hamburg market or was she allowed to use up the remains of the mother? The "old variegation" of the Vierlande samplers appears here again. Rosettes seem to be Barber's favourite motifs. She used her name code with pride three times.
I would like to thank the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe (Museum of Arts and Crafts) Hamburg also in this way for the conveyance of the photo and the opportunity to show it here.
Crosses: 239 x 228
Size: 33,5 x 32 cm
Stitches: Cross stitch
My heartfelt thanks also go to Britta Hisek for sharing both photos with me. According to her research, there is a high probability that the chest comes from the stitcher's family.
