Two years before her sister Lina, Amalie Bartels started her school sampler with a Christian rule of life. "Pray and work" - ora et labora is a monastic motto from the late Middle Ages.
Amalie also embroidered her two big initials like her sister: right and left of her name. Probably those are the parents.
