Roses from A to Z
19th Century | France
In France, for the marking of the clothes - in particular the fine bed linen - mostly large patterns were used and executed in delicate whitework.
Many French publishing houses, however, also produced alphabets in large cross-stitch versions, which enjoyed great popularity all over Europe.
This very large rose alphabet, probably published just before the century turn, still contains two smaller ABCs. A feast for the stitcher's eyes.
