Museums-Mustertuch III
Borders, Borders, Borders. More than 130!
An extraordinary and very comprehensive offer was made by the professional stitcher to her customers: 138 large and small borders.
These borders – the smallest is 3 stitches wide and the largest 69 stitches – were usually used in combination to decorate garment (on shoulders, sleeves, collars, seams, ...) or household textiles.
The Zweigart & Sawitzki Company published a large, multi-coloured embroidery pattern almost three decades ago. Unfortunately, this is not available anymore. By courtesy of the company, I was able to count the sampler by means of the pattern. Thank you very much!
Another sampler of this stitcher (Museum Sampler IV) is also owned by the Ethnographic Museum of Martin in Slovakia.
