Adele Messelir 1838
19th Century | France
Little Adele began her sampler with a cross in 1838. Fourteen delicately woven patterns in red and blue embellish her work. She proudly wrote her name using the letters of the two alphabets.
Adele Messelir probably came from France or Belgium. The original needlework is privately owned and is shown in the marvellous book "Labors of Love, America's Textiles and Needlework, 1650 – 1930”.
